Region 2 of the International
Amateur Radio Union (IARU), covering North and South America, has restarted its
monitoring system program, watching for non-amateur intruders on amateur radio
frequencies. The Region 1 monitoring system (Europe, Africa and the Middle
East) has been quite active in identifying stations that don't belong on the
ham bands and working to get them to change frequencies, but there has been no
similar activity on this side of the Atlantic in recent years. The effort is
being restarted by LU1BCE, who encourages all amateurs in the Americas to
participate through their national societies.
