contest. Connor, who is 18, was first licensed in 2018 and has been instrumental in helping the members of the Great Bridge High School Amateur Radio Club, W4GBH (of which he was president in the 2019-2020 school year), get licensed and get on the air. 
 

More broadly, he is an avid contester and DXer and has been helping get high school students interested in those activities. Connor has paired up with Remote Ham Radio to expand the number of remote ham stations in schools and colleges for youth to operate from anywhere in the world. He has been a pioneer in this endeavor by using his own home station as the first remote youth-only station. Connor has also invited young hams to his home station in the past to compete in the Virginia QSO party, and to operate amateur satellites.

The "Young Ham Lends a Hand" program is sponsored jointly by the Radio Club of America and the Quarter Century Wireless Association. The winner is usually announced at the Dayton Hamvention® Youth Forum, but was announced via e-mail this year by moderator Carole Perry, WB2MGP, as a result of the COVID-induced cancellation of the Hamvention. The goal of the competition is to encourage volunteerism among young hams. The winner receives a check for $100.
