In an effort to encourage
more women in Australia
to become hams, the Australian Ladies Amateur Radio Association, or ALARA, is
offering a limited number of micro-grants to help offset the costs of getting
started. Newsline reports that the grants will cover half the cost of the assessment (exam) fee, half the cost of the license fee for a new call sign, and a one-year complimentary membership in ALARA. These fees are quite high, and the ALARA grants will cover as much as $155 AUS per person. The grants will be issued only after a YL passes her license exam.
