Last month, we reported that CQ Amateur Radio Hall of Fame member Ellen White, W1YL, had been honored with Russia's E.T. Krenkel medal. Now, two additional American amateurs, including a former CQ columnist, have received similar honors.

Former CQ Contributing Editor Bob Josuweit, WA3PZO, was honored for his many contributions to amateur radio over several decades. The citation on the Krenkel Award website notes Bob's work on providing communications for the 1980 Olympic Torch Run to Lake Placid, New York, as well as his service as Public Service Editor for CQ VHF (1996-99) and CQ (2000-09).

In addition, DXer Mario Karcich, K2ZD, was honored for his 6-meter DXing accomplishments, which include 50-MHz DXCC, Worked All Zones, Worked All States, Worked All Continents and the first 6-meter Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) contact (with Lance Collister, W7GJ – another Krenkel honoree – during a DXpedition to the Cayman Islands in 2008).

The E.T. Krenkel Award is issued to individuals and organizations for outstanding contributions to amateur radio in a variety of categories. Krenkel was a renowned polar explorer and radio amateur having the unique Russian call sign of RAEM.
