Participation in
Scouting's annual Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) jumped by more than one-third in
2018 vs. 2017, with more than 10,000 scouts and over 1000 hams taking part. The
ARRL Letter reports that, according
to preliminary reports, participation increased by 36% and that contacts were
made by scouts with stations in 99 different countries. JOTA Coordinator Jim Wilson, K5ND, attributed the big increase primarily to an improved registration and reporting system. A final report on JOTA as well as its online component, Jamboree on the Internet, is expected within a couple of months.
