It's too bad we didn't hear about this in time
for our June "Take it to the Field" special… Newsline reports there's a team of skydiving hams who operate
"parachute mobile" while falling through the air! Mark Meltzer,
AF6IM, apparently set a new distance record for the group in March, contacting
Lloyd Rasmussen, W3IUU in Maryland on 20 meters while skydiving over Byron,
California.
Meltzer told Newsline that he couldn't get too excited
about the contact at the time, since it was kind of dangerous to "pay too
much attention to ham radio and not enough to aerial navigation." We're glad he has his priorities in order!
