IARU to Seek Worldwide 6-Meter Allocation at WRC-19
The Administrative Council of the International Amateur Radio Union met in Chile in October, firming up its strategies and priorities for the next World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC), scheduled for 2019.
High on the priority list, according to the ARRL Letter, is trying to get an amateur allocation in Region 1 (Europe and Africa) from 50-54 MHz, "to harmonized with the allocations in the other two regions). What we know as the 6-meter band had been used for TV broadcasting in Europe prior to the worldwide adoption of digital TV and migration to new frequencies. Many European countries provided hams with a low-VHF allocation at 4 meters (70 MHz).
