New Hampshire Tower Collapse Kills One Ham, Injures Another
Two hams dismantling a tower in
Deerfield, New Hampshire in late July fell some 40 feet to the ground when the
tower collapsed. The ARRL Letter reports that 52-year-old Joseph
Areyzaga, K1JGA, was killed in the fall while 65-year-old Michael Rancourt,
K1EEE, who owned the tower, was seriously injured. Reports said the tilt-over
tower had been bolted to the house to keep it from falling during the disassembly,
but that it appeared that two of its three legs split open and the third bent
just above the tilt base. In June, a ham in Pennsylvania was also killed in a
tower collapse.
