Washington State Wildfire Spotted by Camera on Ham Network
A video camera installed at a ham radio network link site in Washington State was responsible for the early detection and reporting of a wildfire. According to the ARRL Letter, users of the HamWAN network in the Puget Sound region were viewing the feed from a remotely-controllable camera installed at a link site when they spotted a large brush fire. It was reported to the state Department of Natural Resources, which had not been aware of it and sent a team to try to contain it. A video of an air tanker dropping flame retardant on the fire has been posted online at <https://tinyurl.com/y64jl3lu>.
