FAA May Require Remote ID of all Drones and R/C Aircraft
If you fly a drone or radio/control airplane (did you know there are ham-only R/C frequencies on 6 meters?), a new rule being considered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) may require you to install a remote identification system on your craft.
According to the ARRL Letter, the FAA says remote ID is a method by which an in-flight unmanned aircraft may "provide certain identification and location information that people on the ground and other airspace users can receive." The new rules, if adopted as proposed, would apply to all "unmanned aircraft systems," whether used for commercial or recreational purposes, except those currently exempted from registration requirements.
