Project Amelia Earhart a Success
Pilot and ham Brian Lloyd, WB6RQN, successfully completed
his round-the-world flight in early August as a tribute to aviation pioneer
Amelia Earhart. Lloyd followed the path of Earhart’s ill-fated round-the-world
flight attempt in 1937, following her planned flight path for the portion of
the journey that she never finished. Along the way, according to the ARRL Letter, he logged hundreds of amateur
radio contacts. The trip, in his single-engine Spirit aircraft, took 66 days and covered 34,463 miles.
