Amateur radio operators in Washington State made
innovative use of the 60-meter band during an interoperability exercise
sponsored by the U.S. Northern Command and received praise from all quarters
for their success. The drill involved military units, the Washington State
Guard, Army and Air Force MARS, local and state emergency operating centers and
amateurs active in ARES and RACES groups. According to the ARRL Letter, the Washington State Guard assigned soldiers who are
hams to send and receive traffic on its behalf.
