That's the assessment of ham radio made by Mandy Baxter, the
character played by Molly Ephraim on the ABC-TV comedy, "Last Man
Standing." In an episode that aired in mid-March, the teenaged Mandy has
been banned from her computer and cell-phone until she improves her history
grades. She gets on the air from her father's ham station, though, and declares
it to be "just like Twitter, only more advanced (since) you don't have to
type!" In the program, hams who she contacts provide help with her paper.
